Behind the scenes of the BMW Debrecen plant

At the BMW Group's Debrecen plant – dedicated exclusively to manufacturing electric vehicles – EVs aren't only rolling off the production line: hundreds of chargers also serve the employees who commute in electric cars. But why did the automotive giant choose Parkl to deliver Central-Eastern Europe's largest corporate charging infrastructure?

As a company known for its corporate mobility solutions, we have a partnership with both BMW's German parent company and its Hungarian subsidiary, under which we support the automaker's customers as an official e-mobility partner. The strategic cooperation has, moreover, also extended to the Czech market since mid-2025.

As an important milestone of the partnership, BMW Group Plant Debrecen asked us to build the entire employee charging infrastructure for its new Debrecen factory. The task was clear: to create Hungary's largest corporate charging infrastructure, capable of serving future e-mobility needs in terms of both hardware and software. The objective fit the plant's image perfectly, as it is BMW's first factory dedicated exclusively to manufacturing electric cars.

Parkl has played a key role in the project since the very start of the construction of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, tailoring the planning and delivery of charging management to the automaker's needs. More than 300 AC and DC charging stations are available on the plant's site for the corporate fleet, all operated by Parkl. Our shared vision with charger manufacturer Schneider Electric was described in more detail by our CEO Zsolt Somogyi and Balázs Hajós, Schneider Electric's sales director, in Portfolio's August interview.

The total capacity of the charging infrastructure serving the plant's employees exceeds 7,000 kW, roughly equivalent to the grid capacity required to power about 27,000 households – i.e. a mid-sized Hungarian town.

Beyond the chargers on site, employees can also access the public charging networks of 7 other Central European countries via the roaming service available inside the app. This means they can even drive their EV from the Debrecen plant to BMW Group's Munich headquarters without having to look for chargers in another app. Setting up the necessary permissions and full administration all takes place within Parkl's system, simplifying charging management for employees.

The example of BMW's Debrecen plant clearly shows that Parkl is an innovative Hungarian company capable of meeting European-scale challenges and shaping the mobility future of the region.
